Hits: 2

If you need a new trash can for your kitchen, you have more options that a cheap $10 plastic wastebasket in some hideous color. Kitchen wastebaskets can range in price from a few bucks to several hundred dollars. You can get a kitchen trash can that actually compliments the decor of your kitchen, if you want something that is more than just functional. Regardless of your exact needs, with a little preparation you can choose the best wastebasket for your kitchen on your own.

Instructions

1
Look around your kitchen to determine where you want to place a wastebasket. For instance, you may have a corner nook or pantry with room for the wastebasket. Or you may need to put it under the sink or another cabinet.

2
Use a tape measure to get the height and width of the area you have designated for the wastebasket. This prevents you from buying a wastebasket that is too big for the space. If you will be putting the wastebasket under the sink, look to make sure plumbing will not be in the way.

3
Browse available wastebaskets at your local home goods store to see available colors and styles. If you are putting the wastebasket in a pantry or cabinet, the outer appearance may not matter to you. However, if the wastebasket will be out in the open, look for a color and design that compliments the decor in your kitchen. For example, if you have stainless steel appliances you may prefer a stainless steel wastebasket to match.

4
Eliminate any wastebaskets that are outside of your budget and that do not meet your size requirements.

5
Test out the lids on the remaining trash cans to see how well they fit and how they work. You may have a wastebasket with a bullet lid, a flat lid or a pedal-operated lid.
